Rare species

Get Involved!

Would you like to join our team of dedicated species monitors and help look after the sites where some of the UK's rarest species are found?

No previous experience is needed, just a keen pair of eyes and commitment to conservation. And you might just make the difference to a rare species surviving or not. We have excellent resources for learning how to identify our plants and insects and the habtiat where you are likely to find them, and can even show you how to turn a smartphone into a GPS enabled species locator!

Species Monitor Tasks include;

  1. Visiting sites once a year, recording presence of species
  2. Carrying out population counts
  3. Monitoring site condition
  4. Some volunteers also:

  5. Liase with landowners
  6. Carry out light habitat restoration work (such as removal of Bramble)
  7. Send records and photos to SRT
  8. Be part of a our fight to save species from extinction!

If you think you might be interested, have a look at the maps and see if any sites are near you (or in places you'd like to visit). Because we are a small organisation we are looking for people who are good at working independently, but we will give as much support as we can!
